Does Ethical Behavior Fade Over Time? Explorations in Repeated Trust Games

Abstract

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an experiment with three repeated trust games aiming at assessing the   robustness of ethical behavior observed in an initial one -shot game  experiment (Lacour, 2012). We find evidence that participants behave ethically, that is do what their want their partner to do in the same situation. We also find that participants and partners’ behavior are alike across these trust games, as participants’ own intentions match their partner’s. However, contrary to our hypotheses, participants did not consider the experiment as a sequence of three games over which a trust relation develops, but they do revisit their relation as a new game starts.

Keywords: trust, cooperation, intention, ethical behavior.
